Stem: Decoction of bark used to dress wounds from firearms. Bark is astringent, antiseptic and febrifuge. Bark infusion for dysentery.

Origin

Native to Central America; cultivated in South India.

Action:

Bark—astringent and antipyretic. Used as a substitute for cinchona bark is the West Indies.

Folk medicinal uses

The bark is said to be astringent and has been used in decoctions for diarrhoea. as a bitter and febrifuge. For colds and fevers Beckwith said a leaf decoction was used as tea and as a bath.
